(I am re-producing a blog that originally appeared on my religion blog, but as I have been inundated by "life coaches" lately, I thought it bears repeating.)
OK, I know...FAITH healing?
Let me give a short disclaimer, I am uncomfortable in the extreme with self help seminar types, and 'LIFE' coaches. I find them to be the millennial answer to snake handlers. Life Coaches are usually frauds that make money from people who need (or think they need) help. I dislike mantras, and I dislike more the well-meaning but plastic people who spew them... YES, I know.. I am painting with a BROAD brush...People like Deepak Chopra do have some interesting insights, but let's face it...TONY ROBBINS?!?! Now he is just fucking frightening:

- GIMME your money!!!
Seriously, 'educated' people who pay a kijillion dollars for seminars from this automaton look down their noses at people who go to faith healers, but are they really any different?
Faith healing...it is MORE than just the Republican health care plan....
I have always had a weird fascination with FAITH healers. I have found them, of course to be vaguely EVIL..preying on the sick, weak, and addled and fleecing them of money AND hope. I also am completely certain that these people do NOT believe in the God they profess to. There is absolutely NO way these people believe in hell since, IF hell is real, they will be in line right in front of Bernie Madoff and right behind OJ. Watching faith healers is a little like watching wrestling, circus freaks and daytime court TV shows..a sick pleasure.
While there are thousands of fraudsters, among the worst and most flamboyant is Benny Hinn:
But it is easy to target a complete thief who preys on old ladies and little kids. Faith healers are sideshow freaks with zero subtlety...The educational effette elite also fall for this stupid shit in a different guise and package. I speak of:
- Shhh..I have a SECRET..YOU are a gullible stupid person who will send us your MONEY
YES...THE secret...so like many people I was brow beaten into reading this by some dewy eyed newly converted friend, and frankly I was horrified when I leafed through the copy I borrowed from her (not like I would ever pay for it). Like most people I realize that the attitude you put out to the world returns to you many fold, but this book takes the concept of KARMA and perverts it into some sort of cosmic ATM machine...
[
For people who fall for this..seriously...FUCK you and your secret..
Lastly there is Eckhart Tolle..
Now admittedly, this mild mannered, soft spoken, guru-ish German is by far the least offensive of the new agey dudes out there. I mostly say that because all kinds of Christians went bat shit crazy when he appeared on Oprah and gave this huge web cast course people could stream online. Oprah got all kinds of criticism for the new age philosophy.Since I like nothing more than the indignant bleatings of retarded christians, I gave it a listen.
(Ok, let's tell the truth...Since it was free I listened.) Not bad, the basic premise was to let go of the EGO of the individual, to strive for a more integrated humanity...OK.

OK..so faith healers, self help coaches, etc...what about all of it. I think you should listen politely , nod, walk off and go enjoy your life. Throw away your Tony Robbins CD and your Xanax and take your kid to the park, or go to coffee with a friend. You will live just as well. There is NO better LIFE coach than LIFE.
OR keep going to your seminars and spewing your mantras and you will end up like this:

That should deter you from ever visiting the selfhelp section of Barnes and Noble ever again!
