I LOVE LUCY
Some Things are ICONIC.
Lucille Ball would have been 100 years old tomorrow.
"I Love Lucy" is not only my favorite show of all-time, but an Iconic thing in my memory.I first saw I Love Lucy when I was VERY young but became a devoted fan after watching the constant midnight blocks that would run while I was supposed to be sleeping. A show that ran and ended long before I was even born is not only my favorite comedy, but Lucille Ball herself is a continuing source of inspiration for me. There are too many reasons to pinpoint.
Lucy was wonderfully self-aware but uninhibited when it came to her comedy. She was fearless. In a time (the 1950's) where femininity was paramount; she was feminine and FUNNY. I showed the clips of the 'Candy Factory' to my juniors last year , as an example of 1950's television and delighted as they roared with laughter even now. Lucy resounds through the ages. I now watch the shows on DVD and revel in my I Love Lucy collections. Below is my personal favorite example of Lucy's physical comedy, the Ballet Lesson.
THIS ARTICLE EXPLAINS THE LUCY PHENOMENON SIMPLY AND BEAUTIFULLY
"On Wednesday the 26th of April 1989, at 6am, the world became Lucy-less. She was 77 years old." ( http://www.findadeath.com/Deceased/b/Lucille%20Ball/lucille_ball.htm)
